Born to a wealthy cloth merchant, Francis traded a life of comfort and ambition for radical poverty after hearing Christ ask him to rebuild the Church. He embraced the poor, the sick, and even lepers, and founded an order that spread joy and simplicity across Europe. He saw all creation as a family of brothers and sisters praising God. Near the end of his life he received the wounds of Christ in his own body.

Deacon John invites us to join him in prayer for our downtown homeless community on Tuesday, August 4 at 2:30 PM at the Salvation Army Centre of Hope, 1381 Cedar St. The Taize format will pray for the homeless, those struggling with addiction, and their families. All are welcome.
Pastoral Care Training: nine free online sessions, Saturdays 9:30 AM to noon PST, Sept. 26 to Nov. 28 (no session Oct. 10). Topics include the basics of pastoral care, compassionate listening, palliative care, and the grieving process. Info: moiraking@shaw.ca.
